My Bladder Prevented Me From Leading Life To The Full

Valerie, Belfast

Valerie, a 46 year-old housewife and mother from Belfast, had suffered from Stress Urinary Incontinence for 10 years, ever since the birth of her youngest child. Not being in full control of her bladder prevented her from leading life to the full - in particular being able to enjoy physical activities and having fun with her children.

She tried a course of physiotherapy, and a drugs regime, but neither had any effect on her condition. Finally her GP referred Valerie to Dr John Fogarty, consultant gynaecologist at Ulster Hospital in Belfast, who undertakes the GYNECARE TVT-SECUR* procedure.

After having the procedure described to her Valerie says she had no hesitation in deciding to go ahead. "I would have tried anything to end the misery of not having full control of my bladder".

Her experience of the GYNECARE TVT-SECUR* procedure was as a day patient. She experienced no discomfort or post-operative pain whatsoever. In fact, she felt so well, that she says "I had difficulty adhering to the doctor's orders to take things easy".

Since undergoing the procedure Valerie says she can now "skip, trampoline and such like with no fear of wetting myself. Basically I can have fun with my kids. I really can't believe I suffered in silence for so long when such a simple procedure was able to improve my quality of life to such an extent".

As with any surgical procedure, surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) may present risks. Individual patient results may vary and are not indicative of all outcomes. Patients should consult their physicians to find out if this procedure is appropriate for their condition.
