I couldn't cough, sneeze or run without wetting myself

Dawn, West Midlands

This statement is made hundreds of times over in GP surgeries around the country. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) affects thousands of women and can make their lives a misery.

However, Dawn Connolly has joined the 300,000+ women around the world who have had the minimally-invasive GYNECARE TVT-SECUR* procedure which puts an end to the misery of a 'leaking bladder'.

Dawn, who is 45' had suffered from SUI for five years during which time she never felt secure enough to go out without an incontinence pad. She couldn't do sports or any of the activities she enjoyed and felt very insecure. She had tried exercise to strengthen her pelvic floor but this had made no difference so, returning to her GP, she was delighted to be referred to Mr Gurminder Matharu, a gynaecologist working within the Heart of England NHS Trust at Solihull Hospital.

Mr Matharu recommended GYNECARE TVT-SECUR* and, as Dawn says "I was fed up with having wet knickers all the time" she agreed to go ahead.

She was admitted as a day case and was out of bed, eating and able to pass urine normally within an hour of the procedure. She went home the same day and has been fine since then. When asked how her life has changed since the procedure she says she can now go swimming, walking, running and can cough, sneeze and jump up and down if she wants to without any fear of wet pants.

To summarise, Dawn says "Don't suffer in silence. Go to the doctor and get referred to hospital. It's the best thing I have ever done and I wish I had it done sooner".

As with any surgical procedure, surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) may present risks. Individual patient results may vary and are not indicative of all outcomes. Patients should consult their physicians to find out if this procedure is appropriate for their condition.
