My Periods Are Now So Light

I am in my early 40s and I was getting really sick of my period. I never knew what I was going to get..the first few days would be fine and then I would have a gusher! But what I really couldn't take any more was getting a second period during the month. I never knew when I was going to start bleeding again, so I worried about it all the time and carried tampons with me wherever I went. I was still on the pill, so my gynecologist switched the brand and dosage around a couple of times to straighten out my cycle. It would work for a while and then not. Things were getting worse, and I was starting to face the fact that I might have to get a hysterectomy.

I saw the web site with information about Thermachoice. When I read the clinical description of "heavy periods", I didn't think I met the definition, because while my flow was getting heavier and was certainly irregular, I knew women who had a lot heavier periods than I had. I saw on the site that my gynecologist performed the procedure, so I decided there was nothing to lose by asking him. As it turned out, he said that I might be perfect for the procedure - the reason I was getting the second period during the month was that the lining of my uterus was so thin that any disruption in my hormone levels (which he said could be caused by my missing even one pill or taking it at different times of the day), would set me off bleeding. He said the procedure might even stop my periods all together!

The procedure went quickly. The only thing I didn't like is that my doctor does the procedure under a general anesthetic...which I just hate recovering from. I had the procedure in the morning and rested the rest of the day. I was pretty much able to do what I wanted the next day. I had a lot of cramping and some bleeding, but really nothing worse than a normal bad period had been. My next two periods were lighter and I was feeling really good about the procedure. But then the third month I was disappointed and surprised when I had a pretty heavy period. Luckily, that was the "last hurrah", because after that my periods started getting lighter and lighter. Now, 6 months later my periods occur just once a month without having to be on the pill. And I don't even worry about when my next period will occur. They are so light all I need are my daily pantyliners. What a relief!
