Heavy periods - "Don't suffer in silence"

Paula, North Yorkshire

For 10 years I suffered from really heavy periods, often bleeding for as many as 20 days a month. This put many restrictions on my day-to-day life.

After trying a number of different potential solutions, none of which worked for me, I spoke to a friend in my netball team who told me about GYNECARE THERMACHOICE. I visited my GP who gave me all relevant information and leaflets about the procedure and I had THERMACHOICE in February 2006.

I had a general anaesthetic and the procedure was fully explained to me. Everything went well and I was home a few hours later. After the procedure I had some cramping in my stomach but no more than a heavy period pain. I rested for about 2 days and one week later I was back playing sport.

Now I have one period a month which lasts two days at the most and no period pain. Also I can use tampons again.

Please, please speak to your GP. I went through a lot of different forms of contraception and keeping diaries, and even had a coil fitted with hormonal release. None of them worked and I know from speaking to colleagues at work there are lots of women who suffer in silence. DON'T. I would recommend this to any woman. Have it done sooner rather than later. My way of life has changed so much, I feel wonderful.

I have played netball for two years now and this has suffered due to my heavy periods. Since having THERMACHOICE I have improved my game and got fitter by going to the gym 2-3 times a week. My periods are like clockwork now so I can fit my life around my choices and not my periods. Netball is a big part of my life. I have met some wonderful friends and my social life has picked up - no more worrying about that time of the month.
